Interior Design.

Design is said to be the balance between aesthetics and engineering, a merging of form and function. At the end of the day however good design is about problem solving. Whether it’s overcoming budget restraints by clever use of materials or maximising occupancy in a space by changing floorplans and usage around the solutions to these design challenges should become intentional and purposeful, leading the design rather than ruining it. No project is a complete blank canvas and finding the best shape and form for you project to take is a process akin to a puzzle. We believe that by designing with purpose and setting out towards clear goals we can deliver projects that work well on every level.

We have a holistic approach to our design process which means that every aspect of the design is considered as a whole from the start – no unsightly addons tacked on half way through. This allows for considered details incorporated into the fabric of the space rather than fighting against it. Using an experienced interior designer makes finding the right configuration for your space a lot easier, we have the experience of solving these puzzles to draw on. It also means that every aspect can be considered from lighting design, ventilation, acoustics, circulation, capacities and also means you are keeping on top of compliances such as building and fire regulations, planning consents and health and safety considerations.

From initial concepts to site ready drawings we have a client focused approach, working closely with you through stakeholder meetings, market research, surveys and data specialists to bring your project to life. We offer a free initial consultation to find out how we can help you so feel free to get in touch to arrange a meeting today, or scroll down to read about some of our industry specific services.

Hospitality Design.

At its core hospitality design is about creating a unique and comfortable experience for your guests, lighting levels, ventilation and temperature control, acoustic and audio design all play a part in this. In addition as a public space you need to make sure you are operating a safe and compliant space. On the practical side of things you need to optimise workflow with perfectly laid out work areas and easy access to extra stock and glassware. Working a busy bar or restaurant floor is a dance and your space should be designed intuitively to make work effortless for your staff.

In today’s visually led society having a unique space can help you stand out from the crowd and make you instantly recognisable in photos and online, indeed a well-designed and memorable space can bring in customers itself. How does the space reflect your brand? What atmosphere and experience are you trying to create? Who are your target customers and how is the space meeting their desires? Our first step is always to get to know your goals and your ethos so we can tailor our plans to meet your aims.

From industry specific suppliers of steelwork and fixtures, audio design specialists and commercial grade material stockists and fitters to signage design, lighting and power plans and visual identity we have years of experience working with and learning from our hospitality clients.

Retail Design.

Good design can bring your brand to life in three dimensions, it can guide customers through a space, direct the eye to certain points, and make your business secretly efficient. Retail design should showcase your brand, display your products in their best light and intuitively guide your customers through your space in a predetermined path set by you. Good retail design can amplify your presence, create a cult following, make sales processes effortless and leave your customers wanting more.

Much as careful placement of items on a menu can drive sales of a particular dish, how you place your products in the store and at what part of a customer’s journey, can have a significant influence on what you sell and at what price. Correct lighting, controlled temperatures, the right music at the right level can all have a measurable effect on your sales. At the same time making sure stockrooms are laid out efficiently and clutter free, having dedicated admin space and an intuitive point of sale station and process can mean your operations become easier, clearer and more efficient saving you time and money on the bottom line.

From visual identity and window displays, external signage and frontages to bespoke retail displays, furniture, plinths and lighting and sound design we can help you come up with a plan to maximise the effectiveness of your space and create a flagship design for every store. Education Design.

Education design’s specific challenge is that you are designing for two very different audiences, the students and the faculty – both separate viewpoints need to be taken into account equally to foster an environment of wellbeing and remove unseen barriers to a seamless and rewarding experience for both parties. A well-considered and properly designed learning environment can significantly increase cognitive functions and boost learning progress by as much as 16% in a single year.

Daylight optimisation and properly selected frequencies of artificial light can prevent mental fatigue and elevate mood in students and staff, proper airflow and temperature control, sustainable choices for materials and furniture can all increase the comfort of the learning space. Considerations such as colour psychology, acoustic design, technology integration and ergonomic features can further enhance your spaces on an unseen level.

Student safeguarding, accessibility, adequate storage and other practical aspects of the space are vital, but equally so are fostering a sense of pride and community in the students and staff through inclusion, ownership and shared functions of your building. Learning spaces should be vibrant while not overwhelming, should inspire creativity and increase focus, be tactile, interactive elements and encourage student independence while allowing clear and easy oversight form staff. It’s a fine balance but one that when assessed and implemented well can have striking results.
