Japonica approached us as they were planning their salon and we were able to offer advice on layout, style and interaction. For this project we used the exposed brickwork of the stripped back building to create a feature behind reception and used hanging and potted plants to draw the room in and create a feeling of intimate privacy for the clients. Bespoke furniture was made using hand cut pieces for a natural organic feel to the space – The curved reception desk is made up of 52 individually cut and sanded pieces! At a later date an insulated staff room was erected in the garden with electricity run out to it and fitted seats and kitchenette. Japonica has since been featured in Elle magazine’s top eco salons in the country.
